It’s been a long road for educators of the Springfield Public School (SPS) system, but voting day finally came to decide which, if any, representation they wanted to be a part of. Across the district today at all five high schools educators were able to cast their vote to be involved with the Missouri State Teachers Association (MSTA), the National Education Association (NEA), or neither. After more than an hour of vote counting at Parkview High School that included a four check quality control process, they voiced their choice to be represented by the NEA. To be ruled a winner there had to be a 50 percent plus one majority by one side. This was achieved with a 521-383 vote with 12 voting in favor of no representation. This marks a major milestone for SPS educators becoming unionized on a single front.
