Every year the Ronald McDonald House hosts its Holiday Cup o’ Cheer homes tour, a charity event that gives Springfield citizens a glance inside some of the area’s priciest holiday homes.  Kickapoo’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter annually volunteers at the event, which is hosted from the Ronald McDonald House located on 949 E. Primrose.

Funds received from the event, which consists of an antique auction and dessert dinner for guests, are all donated to the Ronald McDonald House.  The Cup o’ Cheer homes tour is one of many fund raisers for the Ronald McDonalds House of the Ozarks.

Senior Kiley Huslig was one of many Kickapoo FBLA volunteers at the event and had a busy day hosting the dinner for its guests.

“I set up the room where all of [the guests] are eating as well as all of the Christmas lights,” Huslig said.

Kickapoo students could be seen hard at work within the house, taking orders for guests and cleaning stacks of dishes and eating utensils.

The delicate desserts consumed on the plates were provided by Chadwick Isom, the executive chef for the Victory Trade School.  The Victory Trade School is a one year educational program that teaches men the restraunt business; and Isom had his chefs hard at work for nearly three months, hand-crafting 7,000 desserts for the Cup o’ Cheers home tours event at the Ronald McDonald House.  Isom teaches a one month professional pastry class in the fall at the Victory Trade School.

“All of the labor is free; 200 hours for the sake of education and the sake of the community,” Isom said.  “We teach real life experience so men can learrn with their hands by doing.”

Kickapoo’s FBLA program is the only Springfield high school that is given the unique opportunity to assist with the program.
